Het Welvaren van den Alblasser-Waard

Important waterboard glass to make a toast to the good fortune of the Alblasserwaard, signed and dated by S.V. Lokhorst, 1753.

The Alblasserwaard is a region in the province of Zuid-Holland to the east of Rotterdam. To the north it ends at the river De Lek, to the south at the river the Merwede and to the west it is fenced off by the river De Nood. To the east it goes to the Oude Zederik, Het Merwedekanaal and the river De Linge.

Until recently there were only three glasses known signed by Van Lokhorst. Two in the Rijksmuseum (Krimpenrewaard and 'T Vaderland) and one in the victoria and Albert Museum (inv.nr. C.440-1936).

Leadglas, with Dutch engraving by Lokhorst.

Dated 1753.
