Utrecht

Small ceremonial goblet to drink to the city of Utrecht.

On the bowl a diamond line engraving of the crowned coat of arms of Utrecht, held by two lions. On the other side, within a cartouche decorated with flowers, two doves and guirlandes, the inscription:

'T WELVARE VAN DE STAD UTREGHT 1731'

Near the rim of the bowl stylized acanthus leaves and dots.

The engraving is attributed to Thomas van Borculo (*? - Utrecht 1765), an engraver from Utrecht.
