Drenthe

Very rare ceremonial goblet with a toast to the region of Drenthe.

On the bowl a wheel engraving of a sitting crowned Maria holding baby Jezus in her arms. The crowned coat of arms is held by two lions. Onderneath the coat of arms the letters: G.T.D.

On the opposite side of the bowl the inscription:

. VIVAT . 

. WEL WESEN . HERN . VAN.

LANDT . SCHAP.

. DRENTH .

In the eighteenth century Drenthe was not a province, but a region in the Netherlands.

German or Dutch sodaglass with Dutch engraving.

Mid eighteenth century.

Height: 18,6 cm
